What We Believe
Florida Coast Church is part of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) and a mission of CityChurch Fort Lauderdale.
The motto of the PCA is “Faithful to the Scriptures, True to the Reformed Faith, Faithful to the Great Commission.” In other words, we believe the Bible is the true Word of God, we identify with the Reformation of the 16th century that brought the Church back to the Bible, and we are committed to being messengers of the good news about Jesus Christ to our neighbors and to the nations.
The word Presbyterian itself simply means that presbyters, or elders, guide our churches. In the PCA, the members of each church elect their elders (including their pastors).
As Presbyterians, we are a confessional church, which means that we have an extensive and historic declaration of what we believe, called the Westminster Confession of Faith, an explanation of the Bible’s teaching on important topics. (There is a smaller summary called the Shorter Catechism.) In addition, we have a Book of Church Order, which is dull reading but a wonderful protection for everyone, because it provides wise procedures for handling good and bad things that may happen in churches.
